Tanker fire explosion averted in Port Harcourt

It was a close call to tanker explosion Friday in Port Harcourt metropolis, following an upturn of a petroleum tanker laden with 33,000 litres of fuel at Education bus-stop, Mile one, Diobu axis of Ikwerre Road.

According to sources who disclosed the incident that would have turned tragic to EnergyDay, the truck lost balance as it was making efforts to negotiate a U-turn on the road, in the process, it crossed two dual carriage lane landing on the ground on its side while spilling its content.

In the commotion that followed, many people allegedly ran away from the scene ,while commuters scampered to scoop the spilled product from the ground, as motorists hurried to move away from the incident scene to avoid fire explosion.

According to eye witnesses, it was the urgent intervention of operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corp, State Fire Service and the Mile One police station who took control of the incident that averted what could have been fire explosion from the spilled content of the tanker as some unwary commuters scooped petrol.

According to sources, the incident occurred between 4:30 and 5:00pm Friday.
