Gas pipeline leakage around Ikeja Awolowo way causes panic among residents

A gas pipeline leakage around the Underbridge Awolowo Way/ Oba Akran, and Computer village axis, in Ikeja, Lagos has caused panic for residents of area.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, State Fire Service and the National Emergency Management Agency have confirmed the incident, advising residents and those involved in commercial activities around the area not to open shops or use open naked fire for safety reason.
The leakage has been contained and halted by the first responders as of the time of filing this report.
The affected area has been cordoned by the first responders, NEMA and other responders who are presently at the scene.
EnergyDay gathered that the gas pipeline may have been ruptured during the road expansion work by Lagos state government, ongoing in that axis.
A Computer engineer, Friday Aselem, who operates an office around the axis, told our correspondent that the gas leakage started at the early hours of Wednesday and caused panic among the resident.
According to him, the gas leakage caused panic as residents of the entire Anifowose axis have been taking safety precautions in the hope that the leakage would be contained permanently by the relevant responders.
