The Management of Kano Electricity Distribution Companyz (KEDCO), has vowed to end all forms of illegalities within its network, through the strengthening of its enforcement measures.
The Head of Corporate Communications, KEDCO, Mr. Ibrahim Sani Shawai, in a press statement signed on Thursday, explained that the level of illegal practice going on within its franchise has become unacceptable, informing the decision by its management team to set up a task force.
The task force was saddled with the responsibility of roaming the DisCo’s (Power Distribution Company’s) coverage areas, door-to-door, to ensure that undisclosed criminal acts are uncovered and punished.
“According to the Management, the mega task force inaugurated to assess meter functionality had discovered a lot of illegal connections, meter bypass, Vandalism and Power theft.
“These constitute a huge economic sabotage for KEDCO and it is in that regard that the Management has mandated our task force teams to ensure a thorough house-to-house check-in effort to clean up the wrongdoings in Kano franchise,” he said.
Shawai called on customers of the DisCo to refrain from such practices as they are capable of affecting power distribution under its network and attracting penalties if caught.
“We, therefore, like to warn that anyone caught forthwith would be prosecuted as KEDCO will no longer tolerate any acts that are capable of causing revenue loss or damage and /or theft of our installations.
“Hence, we are appealing to customers to stop engaging in any form of illegalities capable of hindering power sector development in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa States, as well as report any forms of illegality to any KEDCO offices,” Shawai noted.
