Gas tanker explosion: 2 burnt, 30 buildings razed in Delta

There was a gas tanker explosion in Ohoror community, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State in the early hours of Thursday, 2 people were burnt beyond recognition and more than 30 building were razed.

The incident occurred at about 3 a.m when a granite truck collided with a stationary gas tanker at Ohoro Junction along the East/West Road, destroying properties worth millions of Naira.

One of the eyewitnesses said “the granite-laden truck was heading towards the port from Ughelli when the driver rammed into the stationary gas-laden tanker and in the process collided with other tankers which ignited the fire, killing the driver of the LPG tanker, his conductor and over 30 houses and properties were razed.”

Delta State Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Patrick Muoboghare who is also a member of the community expressed regrets over the unfortunate incident while speaking to pressmen at the scene.

“This is very devastating and I panicked when I heard of it.

“You can see the level of destruction, the structures destroyed in the community,” he said.
