Tanker exploded in Kano, 1 dead, another injured

The Kano State Fire Service said a gas tanker exploded in Ijarawa Village, Bichi Local Government Area of Kano State, causing the death of a 45-year-old man, identified as Maikano Muhammad, while another sustained injury.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by Saminu Abdullahi, Public Relations Officer (PRO), Kano State Fire Service, it was revealed that the accident occurred around 8 am when a tanker laden with Liquified Petroleum Gas (cooking gas) suddenly exploded after its cylinders fell off unto the highway.

The PRO revealed that the other victim, one Abdullahi Usman (40), survived the explosion but was injured.

The statement reads: “We received a distress call from Inspector Daiyabu Tukur at 07:46 a.m. that a vehicle conveying cooking gas cylinders fell on the road and one of the cylinders exploded.

“Upon receiving the information, we quickly sent our team to the scene at about 8:00 a.m. to rescue the victims. All victims were handed over to Usman Usman of Bichi Police Outpost.

“The cause of the incident is under investigation,” he said.

The tanker with the registered plate number: FB 52 LAD, was heading to Katsina from Kano before the explosion.
