A gas bottling plant on Monday engulfed in flame due to an explosion on a CNG truck at a location near the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Camp, at Mowe Bus Stop, off Lagos/Ibadan express road.

An eye witness reported that fire was noticed at the plant in the early hours of Monday morning, stirring the residents and workers around the location into a panic.

EnergyDay gathered that the Redeemers Health Centre (RHD) and  School of Disciple(SOD) both managed by the management of the Redemption camp, were the major public infrastructures in close proximity to the plant, but were reported unscathed by the fire inferno.

The fire incident, according to eyewitness accounts, was first noticed in the early hours of Monday morning before escalating into an inferno that disrupted activities in the high-density environment where the gas plant is located.

As of the time of filing this report, no casualties or deaths had been reported

The first responders, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Response Unit(LRU) and the Federal Fire Service have, as of the period of filing this report, contained the fire which has affected two other CNG trucks parked at the scene of the incident.

 

WHAT LRU SAYS

Adeseye Margaret, Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, in a statement obtained by EnergyDay on Monday confirming the incident said that the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has combated the gas fire at Sun Contractor Project Services Limited, K/m 46 Lagos- Ibadan Expressway, Mowe, Ogun State.

The Fire which was reported at 11:22 hours, Monday, was subdued from causing secondary incidents to the LSU(Ilupeju& Alausa) fire crews, leaving four stationed gas truck severely burnt.

She said, “There was neither case of injury nor death as damping down of the Fire has been concluded.

“The cause of the fire is unknown at the time of this report as the preliminary investigation is- going and will be made public,” LRU Director said.

Ms. Adeseye further confirmed that the area is safe, urging residents of the area to go about their lawful businesses without fear.

RCCG AUTHORITY DENIES BOMB EXPLOSION

The leadership of the Redeemed Christian Church of God(RCCG) in a statement revealed that the unfortunate gas explosion that occurred in the early hours of Monday, at the Gas depot around the Sagamu- bound traffic between the Car Part C gate and the main gate of the Redemption City.

The statement which was released by the Public Relation Department of the church confirmed the incident has been brought under control by the combined efforts of the RCCG Fire Service, Ogun State fire and Lagos State Fire Service.

According to the Church authority, “Against the news making the round, the incident was completely outside the Redemption City and our fire service team only responded as part of our community service support to our neighbours within the environs.

The RCCG management also informed all the residents and visitors to the Redemption City that there is no scare of any sort and urging everyone to go about their lawful and godly activities.
