Petrol-laden tanker explodes on Lagos-Ibadan expressway

Two fuel-laden tankers have exploded at Araromi town, before the Sagamu interchange, along Lagos-Ibadan expressway, causing traffic gridlock on the busy highway.

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) Ogun Sector Command, while confirming the incident disclosed that the explosion occurred in the early hours of Thursday, October 20, 2022,

EnergyDay gathered that the incident happened around 1 am around Araromi town, after NNPC ultra mega station, on the outward Lagos section of the Lagos/Ibadan expressway. However, the situation has been brought under control by the emergency first responders.

FRSC advised motorists to make use of alternative routes to avoid unnecessary delays.

“The rescue operation is still on and the people involved are yet to be confirmed because a bus is also involved.

“The crash scene cordoned off to avoid a secondary crash, and traffic has been diverted,” FRSC said.

Sources at the scene of the fatal accident, said that the explosion involved two fuel-laden tankers, and one bus. So far, 10 persons were burnt beyond recognition.
