Nigerian Government inaugurates project steering committee for 1.650MW Makurdi hydropower

The Nigerian Government has set up the Project Steering Committee (PSC) for the concession of the 1,650MegaWatts Makurdi Hydro Power Plant (MHPP) to provide leadership and high-level support to ensure the success of the transaction for the $ 3 billion project.

This was confirmed in a statement released by Ibeh Chidi, BPE, Head of Public Communications, obtained from the agency’s website by EnergyDay on Wednesday.

EnergyDay’s check showed that members of the Committee include the Minister of Power as chair, the Minister of water resources as co-chair, and the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) as Vice-chairman.

Others are drawn from the Ministries of justice, environment, and agriculture. And, representatives of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission, (ICRC), Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET), and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).”

The statement revealed that Engr. Abubakar Aliyu, Power Minister, in a statement, inaugurated the Project Steering Committee (PSC) giving assurances of the Federal Government’s plan to address the power challenge in the country.

The statement also quoted Engr. Suleiman Adamu, Minister of Water Resources, urged all the players in the power sector to work in synergy to achieve a stable power supply in the country.
