Siemens Energy will by January 2023, deliver a unit out of the 10 mobile transformers and 10 mobile substations ordered by the Federal Government under the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI).

This was confirmed in a statement by Engr Abubakar Aliyu, Minister of Power, on Tuesday, obtained by EnergyDay.

According to him, one of the ten(10) mobile substations, which has been manufactured and tested by SIEMENS at its factory in France, is ready for shipping to Nigeria and will arrive in January 2023.

Further revelation showed that the factory acceptance test is part of Siemens Energy’s process of delivering the transformers to Nigeria.

Siemens Energy had on Friday, September 9, 2022, delivered the first batch of two loose transformers (60/66 MVA) to Nigeria.

The €63 million (Euro) deal for the procurement of equipment to boost power supply under the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI) was approved by the Federal Executive Council in December 2021, and an order for the purchase of the 10 morbid power transformers and 10 mobile substations was placed in the same month.

The Nigerian Government engaged Siemens Energy to modernize, rehabilitate and expand the national grid by investing in the entire electricity value chain.

The first phase of the deal is expected to provide 10 mobile power substations and 10 mega transformers with the aim of improving the grid capacity by 2,000 Megawatts in the transmission-distribution interface to 7000MW.

Sean Manley, PPI Project Director, at Siemens Energy, had in an exclusive chat with EnergyDay recently, confirmed that the deal will lead to the upgrade of 105 transmission substations, construction of 70 new sub-stations, and installation of 35 power stations, some 2,985 distribution transformers, and only 24 Km distribution lines.

Explaining the reason for the supply of the transformers in batches, despite the approval of funds for the supply of the transformers by the Nigerian Government, Sean said, “Mobile substations take longer to manufacture.”

He further noted that the payment for the transformers can only be completed when delivered to the Nigerian Government.

“The Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) of this vital equipment is a major milestone in the progress of the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI).

“We take great care and responsibility by ensuring that our equipment meets the highest possible standards so that millions of people across Nigeria are provided with better access to stable and reliable energy,” Sean Manley confidently affirmed.
