The Kaduna Electric has announced the ongoing rehabilitation and installation of new equipment at 3×15 MVA Kofar Doka Injection Sub-Station with a view to also improve stability and reliability of power supply on Zaria City, Wusasa, Teaching Hospital, Kofar Kibo and Gaskiya 11KV feeder, in Zaria, Kaduna State.

Engr. Yusuf Yahaya, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Kaduna Electric, while inspecting the ongoing rehabilitation and installation of new equipment at the injection sub-station, said the exercise is in line with the Company’s resolve to revamp and modernise some of the obsolete infrastructure in its network.
He said.“As part of our network transformation and infrastructure revamp and modernization, we are embarking on rehabilitation of a number of critical injection sub-stations and installation of new equipment across our franchise; the Kofar Doka Injection sub-station rehabilitation is the first of these infrastructure revamp projects.”

He further revealed that besides rehabilitation of the control room, all the breakers and other protective equipment of the five outgoing 11KV feeders in the Injection substation shall be replaced with new ones.

Engr. Yahaya further revealed that the sub-station was first commissioned in 2002, over twenty-one years ago, with most of the equipment being out-of-date and often breaking down, thereby posing a serious hindrance to the stable power supply in Zaria and its environs including safety challenges.

Abdulazeez Abdullahi, Head Corporate Communication, Kaduna DisCo, made this known in a statement obtained by EnergyDay on Wednesday.
According to him, priority was given to the injection sub-station following the December 2022 incident at the facility due to equipment failure.
He noted that the Kaduna DisCo management undertook an upgrade of equipment and embarked on the civil works to forestall a re-occurrence while modernising the Injection substation.
The spokesperson, therefore, assured electricity customers in Zaria and its environs that the rehabilitation of the injection substation will bring improvement in stability to the affected areas.
