Fire reported at Apapa fuel tank farm

Fire had Friday reportedly engulfed a fuel tank farm in Apapa, Lagos with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company, NNPC, denying ownership, saying the facility belongs to Honeywell Oil and Gas, HOGL.
The incident had yesterday been reported to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, at 11:27 am from the scene of the fire at Apapa.
While confirming the development, the Director of Public Affairs of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Amodu Shakiru, said: “We just received a call from that area and the call came in at 11:27 am.”
Shakiru, who stated that officers from the service had been drafted to the scene to arrest the situation, disclosed that the fire happened “at the new NNPC Terminal, formerly OVH, Kayode Street, Marine Beach, Apapa”.
He added that “fhe fire resulted from a spillage of petroleum products within the perimeter of the tank farm”.
But the Nigerian National Petroleum Company, NNPC, has denied owning the facility under fire, saying the fire was at a pipeline at Honeywell Oil and Gas.
“It is not at the NNPC, but at HOGL. The fire is at a pipeline at HOGL. The fire has since been extinguished. It’s at the Honeywell depot but it has now been extinguished,” NNPC spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, said.
