Dangote refutes report of projected PMS price hike

Dangote Petroleum Refinery Ltd has refuted a report in a national daily of a projected petrol price of N600 per litre of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, as speculated by the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN.
IPMAN had projected that Dangote Refinery will sell its Premium Motor Spirit, popularly known as petrol, at N600 or N650 per litre when it is finally released into the market later this month.
National Vice President of IPMAN, Hammed Fashola, said marketers were currently buying PMS at N700/litre and above from private depots, expressing optimism that the $20billion refinery would crash the price when it begins operation, as it did diesel.
But in a swift reaction, the management of Dangote Group in a statement urged members of the public to disregard speculative announcements and rely only on official communications from authorized channels.
The Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Dangote Group, Anthony Chiejina,
emphasized that IPMAN is not a business partner of the Dangote Refinery, yet, and has no authority to speak on its behalf.
The statement reads, “Our attention has been drawn to headlines announcing “Marketers Project N600/litre for Dangote Petrol” published in Punch Newspapers of Tuesday August 13,2024.
“We would like to clarify that Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, is not our business partner yet. We have never discussed the price of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, with them, and they have no mandate or authority to speak for us, either for good or with hidden transcript.
“We urge the public to desist from such speculative announcements. We have our official channels through which we make our views known to our stakeholders.”
