Petrol queues, scarcity to disappear in Abuja, as Lagos tank-farm owners intervenes

Residents of Abuja are likely to experience a sigh of relief from persistent fuel scarcity and long queues across the city, following the intervention of Ijegun-Egba Tankfarm Owners and Operators’ Association in the fuel supply chain.
EnergyDay gathered that over the last three months, residents and commuters in Abuja have had to endure intermittent disruptions of fuel supplies and the attendant impact of higher cost of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol] in the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) due to irregular supplies by marketers and price instability.
In the new deal, the tank farm owners said forty(40) trucks of PMS will now be delivered everyday to Abuja starting from Monday and will continue through the week to guarantee regular availability of product to consumers.
Mr Adebowale Olujimi, Chairman, Ijegun-Egba Tankfarm Owners and Operators’ Association, in a statement obtained by EnergyDay after the association emergency meeting, claimed that the members are committed to the supply of 40 trucks of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), otherwise called petrol, to the Federal capital Territory (FCT) daily.
The association also announced that its members collectively had 106 million litres of PMS in stock, which it had agreed to load and truck accordingly.
He said, In line with our transparent posture, we wish to put it on record that we collectively have approximately 106 Million litres in stock and will load and truck same accordingly.
The communique co-signed by the secretary of the association Eshiet E. Eshie added that “The Owners/CEOs, having considered the energy situation in the country, committed themselves as credible businessmen and women to work assiduously with the Federal Government and their Agencies to ensure effective and efficient distribution of petroleum products in the nation.
The Association said, “All Tankfarms within the Ijegun-Egba axis are committed to load and supply 40 trucks of PMS per day to Abuja, FCT to address and augment energy supply and energy security in Federal Capital Territory.”
“Any Tankfarm within the Ijegun-Egba axis that defaults or fails or neglects to operate in full compliance with the regulated price should be sanctioned accordingly.
“To underscore transparency and our good faith in ensuring effective product distribution across the Nation, we are committed to work with and cooperate with all Government Agencies and Security Agencies regarding our members’ operational plans, loading plans and pricing.
EnergyDay, in its investigation, observed some significant progress in the distribution of fuel products across the country but price volatility within product’s supply chain is still a major issue of concern to consumers.
Meanwhile, It is uncertain if the NNPC will exit its subsidy support as quietly as the country witnessed in the case of electricity and what impact it would create on the market.
